Motivation relates with attitude.

Motivation encompasses all drives, desires, needs, and similar forces that inspire individuals to act. Managers motivate their subordinates by fulfilling their needs, leading to efficient performance and the achievement of organizational goals. This process follows a cycle where needs give rise to wants, causing tension that leads to actions, ultimately resulting in satisfaction.

Satisfaction is the contentment felt when a desire is fulfilled. The “Carrot & Stick” theory is relevant, applied according to the situation. People are motivated to achieve goals they believe are worthwhile. Human resources, more valuable than capital or equipment, are the most significant asset but can also be the biggest liability. Total Quality People (TQP) are those with good character, integrity, values, and a positive attitude.

Attitude is crucial to success. It shapes how we view setbacks, turning them into stepping stones for positive thinkers and stumbling blocks for negative ones. Our attitude is influenced by environment, experience, and education. A positive environment enhances performance, while a negative one diminishes it. Education should teach us not just how to make a living but also how to live.

Motivation is driven by the force of a person’s desire and the value they place on the outcome. Expectancy, or the belief that an action will lead to a desired result, plays a key role. Motivational techniques include money, participation, and improving the quality of work life. A balance of outcomes and inputs is essential for motivation across individuals.

Organizations should offer not just salary and benefits but also recognition, meaningful work, and opportunities for involvement in decision-making. Employees, in turn, should contribute knowledge, skills, loyalty, and enthusiasm.

However, motivation alone is insufficient without a clear action plan. Success requires setting clear goals, determining how to achieve them, and maintaining the discipline to follow through. Self-motivation involves setting long-term objectives, turning weaknesses into strengths, continually learning, and celebrating accomplishments with loved ones.
